Grammar can be quite confusing at times. Especially the rules. Here are some tips to help you remember when and how to use Present Simple.
We use present simple when we talk about the now. Something that is true today, but will also be tomorrow still. For example we would use present simple to say where we live.... "I live in South Africa".
Another good example of present simple is for something that you like. If you like pizza that will be true tomorrow as well. So we say...."I like pizza".
If it is true today and it is long-term we use present simple. If it is true today, but is not long-term, it has an end date, then we use present continuous.
For Example; "I drive a Toyota". (Present Simple) This means I drive this car today and will continue to drive this car for as long as I want to, it is long-term.
"I am driving a Toyota while I am on holiday" (Present Continuous) This means that I drive the Toyota for today, but will not drive it long-term, only while I am on holiday.
"The past is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift, that is why we call it the present." 😎
