1. Watch the news in English for at least one hour every day. This will help you improve your listening, reading and vocabulary. Even if you find it difficult to understand and follow everything that is being said the more you watch it, the easier it will be to follow.
2. Watch English tutorials on YouTube. This is a great way to improve your vocabulary, listening and grammar. The grammar tutorials are particularly helpful because you can pause and go back if you need to. Always have a pen and paper with you when you're watching these videos so that you can make a few notes while you learn.
3. Watch some movies in English. Try to watch some English movies, but without the subtitles in your language. This way you will be more likely to absorb the English and improve your vocabulary. Just make sure that you don't choose a movie that has too much talking in it, like a drama for example, because then it might be a bit too difficult for you to follow the plot of the story. If you choose some animations, some children's movies or even an action movie, you'll find it easier to follow without the subtitles. And when you are ready to challenge yourself, watch that drama.
4. Listen to some podcasts. This activity is particularly useful if you are trying to improve your listening for the IELTS exam. There is a massive variety of podcasts out there, you just have to choose one that you're interested in and listen. I would suggest listening to the same podcast a few times before you move on, you'll find it easier to follow and to focus on the vocabulary and pronunciations if you hear it often.
5. Read a book in English. Reading is a great way to improve your English vocabulary, another very important part in passing your IELTS exam. The more you improve your vocabulary, the better your chances will be that you are going to get the score you want in reading and writing. Choose a book that you know well, something you might have read in your own language before, a book that's been turned into a movie, children's books or (if you want a good challenge) you can choose something that just seems very interesting to you. Make sure that you have a pen and paper with you while you read so that you can write some of the words down and remember them. It is also a good idea to have a dictionary close so that you can look the word up. I like Dictionary.com because you can hear how to pronounce the word correctly and you can download the app on your phone.
6. Do some online lessons. Being in lockdown means that you are not able to socialize and talk to others like you normally would. This can be a very big problem for those who are trying to improve their English speaking, because if you don't speak regularly you lose it quickly. Luckily you can do some online sessions with an English teacher or tutor who can help you to keep the English going. Even if you do one session a week, it will help. A second cup of English offers many online courses for you and if you don't see what you are looking for, feel free to send us an email and we'll see if we can help you.
Good Luck, stay safe and enjoy the pause ❤
